Our
Story
Get to Know Us
~ Every story begins with a Promise ~
Ours began with the Words that formed the Promise.
It all began when our Founder, Titus Battle, was a fourteen-year-old homeless child on the streets of New York. One freezing winter night, he met a young girl about his age named Elizabeth. She was walking around in the bitter cold of the night.
We took a seat between the cars. I sat on the sidewalk curb, and she sat on the street so I could hold her in my arms to keep her warm.
Both of us felt forgotten, unwanted, and unloved —
Worthless & Useless children the world.
She and I spoke about how worthless we were, how even God, or those who claimed to serve God, seemed to deem us unworthy —
not even of the crumbs that fell from their tables.
We were not allowed near the table to collect the crumbs,
only deserving of the food others threw away.
In that moment of shared suffering,
something eternal was spoken.
I looked at her and said:
When I grow up, I will never forget children like us on the streets.
"I Promise.”
That Promise — made to Elizabeth the Angel,
who did not survive that winter — became
The Seed of The Promise to Children Foundation, Inc.
From that night forward, the mission was clear:
to ensure that no child would ever again feel
abandoned, unwanted, Worthless, Useless or unloved.
What began as one boy’s vow has become a movement —
a Foundation that feeds, educates, houses, and loves.
We exist to serve The Unfortunate Child —
the child who has known trauma, hunger, neglect, and fear —
and to encourage the Light, safety, and compassion that naturally dwell within every life we touch.
We Turn the Light on in Troubled-Beautiful Lives.
“The Foundation of Goodness is Under-Your-Feet.”
“You are a Good, Intelligent, Gifted Child of Life.”
